They are in a dirty place, despair and looked ached. Some thoughts that come to my mind when I see this picture is poverty, sadness, the pain they might be feeling, the desire to help them and worried. In the photograph there’s a woman from Nipomo, California aged 32 and mother of seven children. She looks old, in pain, with light eyes, short nails, and with messed up hair, and wrinkles in her face.

If I were inside the picture I would probably look at her and feel really bad about her situation. I would ask her how can I help or bring her something to eat at least depending of my own situation. The mood of the picture seems to be despair. This picture look as if was taken during the great depression when people lived in misery and factories had cheap labor. She is in a small place, most obvious without shelter. The place is small, plain and it looks like a train. The woman looks like a single mother. Her clothes are sign of a really low social and economic status in society. Even though she is white, she is one of the poor Americans forgotten, not paid attention to.

This picture is an example of sociological imagination because it shows that the problems of an individual have to do with the wider society. It demonstrates that the problems are person encounters are caused mostly by their society and how it changes, as well as history events that influences one’s life unconsciously.

Sociological Imagination II

Judge Says Remarks on ‘Gorillas’ May Be Cited in Trial on Beating

This article states that the movie “Gorillas in the Mist” can be used as evidence in the trial against four white officers charged of beating up a black motorist. This event affected my life because it helped to promote human rights and equality. In the U.S. black people were oppressed back then, so it now the effect that this trial had on society affect my life as well because if it wasn’t for the civil war and all the struggles that black went through I might have been discriminated. So this event allows me to be threated as equal and have freedom while in this country.

For Immigrants, English Helps Them Feel at Home

This articles tells the story of 21 from Guinea, Haiti, Czechoslovakia, the Dominican Republic and 10 other countries came to United States. For them English was the biggest obstacle to succeed and they were taking classes together so they can feel like home. This is related to my personal life because when I came to US it was one of the greatest challenges that was an obstacle for me to graduate 3 years ago. Also it created a diversity in schools if it was not for these international unions maybe I would not have had the opportunity to attend an international school nowadays.

This project is an example of sociological imagination in which I search how the events from history have shaped my life. Sociological Imagination is the connection between an individual and the wider society. In this project I showed how history influenced me even unconsciously. I am sure that this happens to every person because society shapes people’s life.

Sociological Imagination I

World Headlines:

Sociology is the scientific study that connects all these different aspects and tries to explain social behavior and human groups. Sociology is not a natural science but a social science that focuses on social relationships and how those relationships influence behavior and how societies develop and change. (2)

Sciences have two main divisions that are natural sciences and social science. Natural sciences are those that explain and predict events in our natural environment. In the other hand social sciences examine human relationships that focus on and attempt to understand objectively the social world. (1) Some social sciences are history, political science, economics, anthropology and psychology. History focuses on the events from the past such as WWI. (1) Political science focuses on politics, government and the way people govern themselves, related to other institutions. Economics is based on the production and distribution of material goods and services of a society. (2) Economics also study the consumption, production and the distribution of goods and services of a society and the consequences of human life. Anthropology attempts to understand culture and people who live industrialize. Psychology focuses on the mental processes. It also focuses on the development of thoughts, behavior and characteristics. In contrast, sociology focuses on the communication between people with one another and their system.

Sociology differs from the rest of the social sciences because it emphasizes on the social classes and evaluates many times education based when trying to evaluate themes such as delinquency. Let’s explain how other social sciences view the issue of juvenile delinquency. History would try to interpret the delinquency by stressing the social context of the period; it would also study the number of gangs and their origins.(3) Political Science study how the existence of gangs relates to politics. It also would compare one gang with another.(3) Economists emphasize the economic aspects of delinquency; they determine how material goods, such as stolen property are allocated within the gang.(3) So in other words economists would look at the effect that robs would have on the economy. Anthropologists examine the implements of the structure of the gang. They focus on the leaders and their traits, and the gang member’s ways of communication. In Psychology specialists focus on what exists within the delinquency. It focuses on the member’s personality. They would perform certain tests to determine and study the trends on the member’s behavior. Unlike those sciences sociology focuses on the structure of the gang, but they would be more interested on the gang member’s attitude toward property.

On their approach to social inequality sociology is also different from the other social sciences. History would interpret delinquency by stressing the social disruption caused by historic events such as WWI and the holocausts or other events of the period. Political science study if the access to politics influence children joins gangs. Economics is a science that explains how a problem affects the society economically. They study the relationship between gangs and economic conditions. In anthropology they would stress the larger culture to see what about culture as entry in manhood leads to the creations of these groups based on vandalism and rebellion against society. Psychology on the other hand would compare the traits of young man who join gangs to those who live in the same conditions, culture and neighborhood, or class and don’t. Sociology would rather study the structure of gangs, their group interaction and the effects of punishments over people, such as detention and incarceration.

In conclusion, sociology is a very specific and special social science that differs from the others because it focuses on social relations. It includes the evaluation of social classes and of the system that people in a society follows.

Global Analysis

This object exists in other countries in form of good to sell and for production. It’s used to make phone calls, send text messages, listen to music, play games, search information using the internet and write notes, etc. In other countries such as China workers don’t own it, they just produce it. It’s just available for certain people. In other countries people buy it and sell it. In poor countries many people can’t afford to buy it because it’s too expensive, and only some middle class and upper class people get it. The iphone is just made in China but their salary is extremely low making it impossible for people to own it.

In other places outside the U.S. it’s used differently because people buy it and then resell it at another price to earn profit for them. Also in other places it doesn’t work so it needs to be modified inside in order to function. In many places people pay to unlock the internet, access to the country’s SIM card and/or applications, so that they can use these services for free. The iphone affects life on the planet because in China it has been a cause of suicide for people who can’t afford it. Also it affects different societies making them more advanced and technological. The iphone is originally made in China on factories. Factories have the type of production in which people do one specific task to make the item, each person do something to put the iphone together.

Wrap Me in your arms (Envolve-me em teus Bracos)

Wrap Me in your arms (Envolve-me em teus Bracos)

somedayhomeinspiration:
